My Story
Ever since I was a young child, I had a fascination with architecture. I remember trying to build complex houses out of Lincoln Logs or Legos. I drew tons of houses on sketch pads long before AutoCAD was ever developed. It was the beginning of my plan.
Before I graduated from The Community College of Beaver County in Beaver, Pennsylvania in the spring of 1999 with an associate degree in Architectural Drafting and Design, I worked a slew of dead-end jobs. A friend of mine pleaded for me to go to college so that I would not be caught in this vicious cycle for the rest of my life. I was big into art but was told I'd probably never land a serious job unless I knew someone or went to the "Big City". Discouraged and unsure of what field I should venture into, God led my mind back to the days of old when I was intrigued by architecture. So, following His lead, I started taking courses at the Architectural Drafting and Design Program at a nearby community college. I worked very diligently and graduated with a 3.85 GPA in the spring of 1999.
While I was in college, the Lord delivered me an angel from heaven in my wife, Sandra. We met in a chat room on line, when it was the "in thing". She was from North Carolina and after I graduated, I relocated from Pennsylvania to North Carolina in the Summer of 1999, directly after we had gotten married. I put resume after resume out with the same response after every phone call or interview - “We're sorry, but you have no experience." I became very discouraged. I questioned God in His plan, but I forgot His plans were always higher than mine. While working as a packer in an ink pen factory, a fellow co-worker asked me if I had any future plans because he would hate to see me stuck doing this for the rest of my life. I told him that I had a degree in Architectural Drafting and Design, but I couldn't find a job. He told me about a friend whose company was hiring for that sort of position. He put me in contact with him and two interviews later I had my first job as a CAD draftsman. Although it was not what I really wanted (I was an engineered wood structural draftsman), I was very grateful.
In 2004, my boss decided he was going to part ways with the owner of this company and start his own residential design company. Here is where the talent that God gave me began to develop. This company was a blessing from God. Everyone who was employed there were followers of Jesus, and it was a great work environment. In the span of eleven years, I had the luxury of designing thousands of homes across North Carolina - Beach houses, mountain homes, and exquisite multi-million-dollar luxury homes. Several of the houses that I designed were gold medal winners in the Parade of Homes.
So, now this chapter in my life is growing knowing God is my captain and in charge - the way it should be. I design every plan as if I were drawing it for Him. I take great pride in what I do, and I am always determined to make all my clients’ dreams come to life on paper. Thank you for reading my story and I hope to be the creator of your dream house!
